Keep the world out of your heart

“Live in this dunya as if you are a stranger or a traveler.”

The khateeb, at 8:10

In one sentence

The khutbah teaches that believers should treat worldly life as temporary, keep possessions out of their hearts, and invest their time, worship, restraint, and generosity in the eternal Hereafter.

The khutbah in 5 steps

  1. Defines zuhd as recognizing the dunya is temporary and using good deeds to reach the Akhira.
  2. Uses Quranic verses and hadith to explain the dunya’s fleeting value compared with the Hereafter.
  3. Clarifies that zuhd is detachment from wealth, not necessarily poverty or lack of possessions.
  4. Urges remembrance of death, self-accountability, extra worship, fasting, moderation, and charity.
  5. Closes with the traveler metaphor, counsel from Umar and Ibn Umar, and prayers for contentment and suffering communities.
