Care about Gaza and keep going
“It is our responsibility to care about Gaza.”
The khutbah argues that Muslims must resist apathy and despair over Gaza by renewing remembrance, drawing hope from faith and history, and turning concern into persistent small actions.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Identifies emotional burnout, desensitization, and apathy caused by prolonged exposure to Gaza’s suffering.
- Recalls Gaza’s doctors, journalists, children, and martyrs as heroes whose stories should remain alive in Muslim homes.
- Draws hope from the afterlife, the Prophet’s response to Khabbab, and the eventual fall of every oppressor.
- Uses the Mongol era, two merchants’ da'wah, and Ain Jalut to show how small efforts can produce major consequences.
- Calls listeners to reject helplessness through advocacy, local hunger relief, remembrance, social media, and family education.
- Concludes with personal responsibility, a QR-code letter campaign, and prayers for Palestine and all oppressed people.
In the khateeb's words
“On our shoulders is not the responsibility to save Gaza. But it is our responsibility to care about Gaza. It is our responsibility to keep going.”
“Hope is about persevering despite the fact that we're not optimistic. That's what hope is.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb spoke about how sadness over Gaza can leave us tired or feeling that nothing we do matters. He encouraged us to keep our hearts caring and to remember the courage of medical workers, journalists, and others serving their communities. He reminded us to draw hope from Allah’s justice, the Hereafter, and the Prophet’s example of perseverance. We are responsible for making an effort, even when we cannot control or see the results. As a family, we can keep making dua, share stories of people who help others, feed someone nearby, and take small steps to speak up for people facing oppression.
- What is one quality of a person who helps others that you would like to practice?
- What small act of care could our family do together this week?
- How can we encourage each other when doing something good feels difficult?
