The Quran guides truth and morality

“The knowledge of the dunya will benefit us only in this world.”

The khateeb, at 18:40

In one sentence

The Qur’an, as al-Furqan, is Allah’s eternally relevant criterion for truth, morality, and belief, so Muslims should study, reflect on, and share its guidance.

The khutbah in 5 steps

  2. Explains human ignorance and the progression from sensory knowledge to intellect and divine revelation.
  3. Distinguishes the Qur’an and Prophetic teachings as forms of revelation, using Surah al-Najm and Abdullah ibn Amr’s example.
  4. Contrasts worldly knowledge, which changes and benefits this life, with revelation, which is eternal and certain.
  5. Concludes by urging listeners to study, reflect on, learn, benefit from, and spread the Qur’an.

Today’s reminder was that the Qur’an is al-Furqan, the guide that helps us tell truth from falsehood and right from wrong. We learn many things through our senses and minds, but revelation gives us guidance about matters beyond what we can discover on our own. The khutbah emphasized that the Qur’an and the Prophet’s teachings are lasting sources of certainty and guidance. As a family, we can study the Qur’an, reflect on it, write down what we learn, and share its goodness with others.

  1. Where do we need the Qur’an to help us tell right from wrong this week?
  2. How could writing down what we learn change our family habits?
