Allah’s guidance is our greatest blessing
“If you have the Qur'an, then you are a human being; if you have lost it, you have lost some of your humanity.”
The greatest blessing is Allah’s guidance, so believers should recognize it, protect it through worship and obedience, and use it to benefit others.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Cultivate gratitude by deliberately counting Allah’s blessings.
- Treat hidayah and iman as the greatest blessing, greater than worldly possessions.
- Protect guidance through salah, Qur’an, dua, dhikr, and resisting temptation and sin.
- Use daily istighfar and la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah to revive the heart.
- Take imperfect but beneficial civic action, including voting, to reduce harm locally and globally.
- Close with supplications for steadfastness, righteous character, Paradise, and protection from Hell.
In the khateeb's words
“the natural response should be you should love Him and you should thank Him and you should trust Him”
“if you have the qur'an then you are a human being if you have lost it you have lost some of your humanity”
“the believer feels appreciates that if I have this I have everything and if I don't have it I have nothing”
“partial is better than nothing and don't let perfect be the enemy of good”
For the dinner table
The khutbah teaches us to notice and name Allah’s blessings instead of focusing only on what we lack. The greatest blessing is guidance through faith and the Qur’an, which is more valuable than wealth, health, or possessions. Because hearts can change, we should protect our guidance through prayer, Qur’an, dua, dhikr, and avoiding sin. The speaker recommends saying astaghfirullah and la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah one hundred times each day. He also encourages beneficial civic participation, including voting, when it can reduce harm and help people.
- What blessing from Allah do you notice more clearly today?
- Which daily practice could help keep your heart close to Allah?
- When can a small helpful choice make a real difference?
