Weather reveals Allah's power and mercy
“Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala shows us His power through weather situation.”
Weather and climate are signs of Allah's power and mercy that should move Muslims to worship Him, repent, care for those in need, and avoid complaining about wind or rain.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Allah demonstrates His power through weather, as when He destroyed the people of Aad with a strong wind
- Climate changes are reminders for believers to pray, make dua, give charity, and repent
- Night, day, sun, and moon are created signs that direct worship only to Allah
- Extreme heat and cold impose a social duty on Muslims to help those without relief
- Those who served the needy will enjoy temperate shade on the Day of Judgment
- Seven categories of people, including just leaders and secret givers, will be shaded from the sun
- It is forbidden to insult wind or rain; believers should see Allah's power and mercy in them
In the khateeb's words
“But sometime Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala shows us His power through weather situation.”
“You should think about people in need. In very hot day. You have air conditioner. You have fans in your house. Some people that even have electricity. They don't have.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminded us that weather and the changing night, day, sun, and moon are signs of Allah’s power. We should respond to difficult conditions with prayer, dua, charity, and repentance rather than relying on our own strength. Weather should also awaken our social duty to help people who lack electricity, cooling, or other necessities. The Prophet’s teaching about those shaded on the Day of Judgment encourages justice, youthful worship, attachment to the masjid, secret charity, and private remembrance of Allah. We should avoid insulting the wind or rain and instead use every condition to remember Allah and serve others.
- What is one way our family could help someone who struggles during very hot or cold weather?
- What helps you feel comfortable and connected at the masjid?
- How can we replace complaining about the weather with gratitude or zikr?
