Forgiveness and unity defeat Shaitan
“If you have anything between you and someone else, be the first person to give the salams and Allah will take away that hatred.”
Shaitan’s most dangerous victory is sowing division among believers, so Muslims should humble themselves, listen, forgive, and repair relationships for Allah’s sake.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Allah’s favor unites believers, and humility draws them close.
- Shaitan turns envy, small slights, and religious differences into division.
- Stories of the Ansar, Yusuf, Cain and Abel, Abu Dharr, Bilal, Abu Ubaidah, and Khalid illustrate the danger and remedy.
- Believers should listen, consult, cool anger, avoid name-calling, and preserve clean hearts.
- Forgiveness, first greetings, straight prayer rows, and reconciliation lead toward love and Paradise.
- The khutbah closes by urging forgiveness, unity, and protection from Shaitan.
In the khateeb's words
“But one of the worst ways in which the shaitan comes to us, to misguide us, is not only in the temptation of sins. but it is in creating seeds of division and discord.”
“sometimes it's better to tolerate if someone is breaking a rule than to break the hearts. Because if someone breaks a rule, they make tawbah to Allah and they come back.”
“If you have anything between you and someone else, be the first person to give the salams and Allah will take away that hatred.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminds us that Shaitan does not only tempt people into obvious sins; he also tries to turn small hurts and differences into lasting division. Allah brought former enemies together, and our shared iman should remain more important than differences of culture, personality, or opinion. We can resist by listening, speaking gently, cooling down before arguing, giving salam first, and repairing relationships. We should try to sleep with clean hearts, free of hatred and envy, and make room for people who are still learning. Forgiving others and protecting unity are acts of worship that can lead us together toward Jannah.
- What is one small conflict you could make smaller by listening or apologizing?
- What might giving salam first change in a friendship or sibling relationship?
- How can we correct a mistake without breaking someone’s heart?
