Allah can use your gifts to serve others
“How can you utilize it to serve the Ummah of Muhammad?”
Allah can choose and use believers despite sinful or difficult pasts, and they should discover their talents, trust Him, and direct them toward serving the Muslim community.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Uses Musa’s encounter in Surah Taha to introduce divine selection despite human inadequacy.
- Reframes Musa’s past killing, speech difficulty, and fear as no barrier to being chosen.
- Shows how Prophet Muhammad recognized and directed the distinct talents of Bilal, Sa’d, Zayd, and others.
- Challenges listeners to identify their own skills and ask how to serve the Ummah.
- Uses the Hudhayfah hadith to urge immediate good action before death.
- Closes with prayers for oppressed communities, the sick, and deceased Muslims.
In the khateeb's words
“he becomes a talent that is ready to change the whole world”
“the question is would Allah look at you and use you?”
“and how can you utilize it to serve the Ummah of Muhammad?”
“today you shall take the responsibility and make the intention”
For the dinner table
The khutbah teaches that our past does not automatically disqualify us from meaningful work for Allah. Musa was chosen despite serious mistakes, fear, and difficulty speaking, while Prophet Muhammad recognized useful strengths in companions such as Bilal, Sa’d, and Zayd. We should notice the abilities Allah has placed in us and direct them toward helping the Ummah. The speaker urged everyone to make that intention now and begin a good deed before death. The khutbah closed with prayers for service, oppressed people, the sick, and the deceased.
- What is one thing you are good at that could help someone else?
- How could you turn one of your talents into service this week?
- What does “I’ve chosen you” mean when you feel unqualified?
