Love Allah by putting Him first

“When you love something or somebody, you will mention them all the time.”

The khateeb, at 12:26

In one sentence

True love of Allah is shown by making Him the heart’s standard, fulfilling obligations, following the Prophet, and expressing that love through worship, remembrance, patience, and service to others.

For the dinner table

The khutbah teaches that Allah is the true provider, and having more of the world does not automatically mean Allah loves someone more. Love for Allah means making Him the standard for what we love, dislike, give, and withhold, while still loving family, work, and homeland in their proper place. The speaker says to begin with obligatory worship and then grow through voluntary deeds, following the Prophet, repentance, patience, Quran, remembrance, mosque connection, learning, generosity, good company, and service. A simple family goal could be to protect an obligation, remember Allah more often, and do one beneficial act for another person. The khutbah ended with prayers for Gaza, Muslim unity, and steadfastness.

  1. What is one way we can remember Allah more during an ordinary day?
  2. Who could we help this week in a way that benefits them?
  3. What obligatory act should we take more seriously?
