Quranic stories guide us back to Allah
“These are footsteps for us to come back to Allah.”
Quranic stories are not mere entertainment but divinely given footsteps that guide believers back to Allah, especially by teaching trust in His promises through hardship.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Explains Qasas as both stories and footsteps, making Quranic narratives guides rather than entertainment.
- Introduces Surah Qasas's account of Fir'aun's tyranny and the slaughter of Israelite baby boys, connecting it to Gaza.
- Follows Musa's mother's fearful obedience, divine reassurance, and the preservation of her child.
- Shows how Musa is returned to his mother and uses the fulfilled promise to reinforce trust in Allah.
- Closes with reading Quran in an understandable language, noticing Allah's promises, and handling pain without clinging to it.
In the khateeb's words
“We listen to the stories And these are footsteps for us to come back to Allah”
“But because she took a step And fulfilled the obligation of Allah Look at what Allah gave her in return”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that Quranic stories offer footsteps we can follow back to Allah. The khateeb told the story of Musa’s mother, who trusted Allah’s guidance while fearing for her baby’s safety. Her faith did not erase her painful emotions; Allah strengthened her heart as she faced them. Through the actions of Musa’s sister and Fir’aun’s wife, the story also highlighted the courage of women in our history. Allah returned Musa to his mother, fulfilling His promise, and the khateeb encouraged us to read the Quran in a language we understand and notice Allah’s promises.
- What part of the story of baby Musa stayed with you, and why?
- How did Musa’s mother, his sister, and Fir’aun’s wife each show courage?
- What could we do as a family to understand the Quran better?
