For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that building a healthy marriage takes learning and practice, just as driving does. Focusing especially on men’s responsibilities, the khateeb emphasized faith, good character, practical knowledge, emotional strength, fairness, and providing for the family. He described family leadership as a responsibility to care, and pointed to the Prophet’s gentleness, humility, and consultation as examples. He encouraged admitting mistakes, controlling anger, listening carefully, and showing appreciation for everyday efforts. He ended by reminding spouses to recognize each other’s good qualities and asking Allah to help us improve ourselves and strengthen our families.

  1. What is one responsibility at home you would like to learn how to handle well?
  2. How can you show someone that you are really listening?
  3. What is one kind thing a family member did recently that you can thank them for?
