Muslims must represent Allah in every sphere
“Our being Muslim is our badge of authority in all those categories.”
Allah intentionally formed Muslims as a balanced ummah whose members must orient every sphere of life to revelation, embody Islam through behavior, and serve as truthful witnesses in a distorted world.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Introduces Qur'an 2:143 and the hadith of the straight path, presenting Allah's call as both the Qur'an outside and conscience within.
- Explains ummah, khalifah, and ja'alnaakum as deliberate divine formation rather than private religious identity or mere personal salvation.
- Uses examples of stadium cards, animal nature, and cities to show how individual Muslim responsibilities collectively reveal or distort Allah's will.
- Defines wasata as centered moral clarity capable of seeing through propaganda, polarization, and distortion while seeking truth with Allah's help.
- Closes with calls for repentance, protection, guidance, and practical participation in a local returning-citizens event and mosque setup work.
In the khateeb's words
“Each one of us have a responsibility as a member of the body to act in a particular way in order to get a particular result.”
“Our being Muslim is our badge of authority in all those categories. To represent the will of Allah.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that Allah guides us through the Qur'an and through a warning within our hearts that calls us away from wrongdoing. He explained that being Muslim includes helping build a community whose daily life reflects Allah's guidance. Like people holding up cards to make one big picture, each of us has a part to play. Our faith should show in how we treat our family, learn, work, and greet one another, with the Qur'an and the Prophet Muhammad's example guiding us. He also encouraged us to listen fairly, seek truth, and keep asking Allah for forgiveness, protection, guidance, and help.
- When have you felt an inner warning to stop and make a better choice?
- What is one thing you can do this week to help our family work together?
- How could you help someone feel welcome through your greeting or behavior?
