A Quran guided vision can transform communities

“Whatever skills you have, if you think it can benefit the community, come forward.”

The khateeb, at 32:10

The khutbah in 5 steps

  1. The Prophet’s global vision is presented as evidence of strategic leadership beyond Arabia.
  2. Strategic vision requires a long-term goal, Quran-guided strategy, resources, human action, and confidence that success is achievable.
  3. The examples of Ibrahim’s monotheism and the journey to Tabuk illustrate persuasive reasoning and conviction.
  4. In Medina, Masjid al-Nabawi became a center for worship, governance, cooperation, and integrating diverse communities.
  5. Modern masajid should develop skilled volunteers, preserve core values, and build inclusive relationships across ethnic and national differences.

For the dinner table

The khateeb encouraged us to learn from the Prophet’s example of having a clear vision and helping others work toward it. He explained that a hopeful goal needs a plan, people, resources, action, and belief that it can be achieved. He reminded everyone that their skills can serve the masjid and encouraged them to come forward without feeling shy. He also spoke about staying faithful to Islamic values while respecting other people’s right to follow their religion. He ended by reminding us that our different backgrounds are an opportunity to know one another and build a shared community.

  1. What is one goal our family could work toward together, and what first step could we take?
  2. What is something you enjoy or do well that could help someone at the masjid?
  3. How could you help someone from a different background feel welcome in your group?
