Make time for Allah each day
“If you want to remember Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, you got to make time for it.”
The khutbah argues that believers find true wealth and alignment with Allah by making worship central to their daily time and choices rather than treating money, work, or worldly expansion as life's purpose.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Gratitude brings increase, but believers often complicate Allah's promise through disobedient choices.
- A hadith about worship and selling one's soul is explained as a lesson in daily time management.
- Worship, Qur'an, prayer, charity, and remembrance should define the believer's purpose and routines.
- Work and family responsibilities are necessary means, but must not replace the purpose of worship.
- True wealth is inner sufficiency, developed through remembrance, trust, and abundant istighfar.
- The khutbah closes with supplication for alignment with Allah and mercy for the deceased.
In the khateeb's words
“You wake up every day and you have a choice You can either free this soul of yours or you can destroy it”
“Nobody has time The difference is some people in this world make time If you want to remember Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala You got to make time for it”
For the dinner table
Today the khateeb reminded us of Allah's promise: if we are grateful, He will give us more. He shared a hadith that every morning each of us wakes up 'selling' our own soul. Through the choices we make all day long, we either free it or destroy it. He explained that how we spend our time shapes the decisions we make. Our jobs and schools are there to meet our needs, but they are not the purpose of our lives, because we were created to worship Allah. Nobody simply 'has' time for Allah, so we have to make time, just as the Prophets worked during the day and spent their nights remembering Allah. Real wealth isn't a big bank account. It is a heart that feels content, trusts Allah, and turns to Him often with istighfar.
- What is one thing you did today that brought you closer to Allah?
- If you could make 10 extra minutes for Allah tomorrow, what would you do with them?
- What do you think it means to be 'rich' in your heart instead of rich with money?
