Use Allah’s blessings before they are gone
“Am I using whatever Allah has given me effectively?”
Muslims should maximize Allah’s existing blessings by acting as responsible stewards, valuing finite resources before they disappear, and taking productive action without procrastination.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Reframe goal-setting by asking whether existing blessings are being used effectively before asking for more.
- Adopt a khalifa or steward mindset, extending responsibility from oneself to family, community, society, and creation.
- Treat blessings as a portfolio to maximize benefit and minimize waste for this life and the hereafter.
- Apply the hadith of valuing youth, wealth, free time, health, and life before their opposites.
- Replace quantity-first thinking with barakah and begin small acts of charity and worship immediately.
- Close with a warning against regret and a supplication for gratitude, knowledge, and productive use of blessings.
In the khateeb's words
“But when a person already has whatever Allah has given them, The question that has to continuously be asked of ourselves is, "Am I using whatever Allah has given me effectively?"”
“the goal of the khalifa, the goal of the steward, is to make smart decisions. Is to make decisions that will benefit them in the future.”
“Allah is not waiting for you to gain the ability to give $500 every month for sadaqah. Starting off with $5 is enough.”
“So maximizing blessings requires, number one, having the productivity mindset, number two, not procrastinating.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminded us that every blessing is a trust from Allah, not something to take for granted. Before asking for more, we should look at how well we are using what we already have. The speaker highlighted youth, wealth, free time, health, and life, encouraging us to use them before they change or disappear. We do not need to wait until we have a lot; small acts of charity and worship can carry great barakah when we begin now. We can be grateful stewards by making a simple plan and avoiding procrastination.
- What blessing, time, health, money, or energy, could you use more wisely this week?
- What small good deed can you start now instead of waiting until later?
- How can our family care for one blessing together?
