Ramadan should fuel lasting worship

“Don't let one night slip without you opening the book of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”

The khateeb, at 13:08

In one sentence

Ramadan should be a refueling station rather than a finish line: believers should continue sincere, consistent worship, improve themselves, and preserve community unity afterward.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. The central Quranic command calls believers to move from one act of worship to another.
  2. Ramadan is presented as a refueling station whose real test is what remains afterward.
  3. Private, sustainable worship includes Qur'an, qiyam, sunnah prayers, and six fasts of Shawwal.
  4. Self-assessment, purification, and gradual consistency indicate whether Ramadan transformed a person.
  5. Post-Ramadan Muslims should protect unity through patience, humility, and companionship with believers.
  6. The khutbah closes with encouragement to vote and prayers and support for the local waqf project.

For the dinner table

Ramadan is meant to refuel us, not to be the finish line. After Eid, we should keep a small, sincere routine of prayer, Qur'an, remembrance, and other good deeds, even when nobody sees us. The khutbah encouraged us to fast six days of Shawwal and build gradually rather than worship intensely and then stop. It also reminded us to purify ourselves, be patient with fellow Muslims, and protect community unity. Finally, the speaker urged civic participation through voting and asked people to pray for and help complete the local waqf project.

  1. What is one good habit Ramadan helped you start?
  2. How can we make reading Qur'an part of an ordinary night?
  3. What does putting our egos aside look like at home or in the community?
