Live up to the purpose Allah gave you
“There's a reason why you were created.”
Because Allah created and sustains us for a purpose and sent His Messenger to guide us, believers should respond with gratitude, purify their souls, and worship Allah alone before death ends the opportunity.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Opens with praise of Allah and the reminder that humans were created, provided for, and sent guidance.
- Uses illness and bodily limitations to urge gratitude for health and compassion toward suffering people.
- Contrasts worldly accumulation with spiritual savings and recommends purifying the soul through supplication.
- Calls listeners to reflect on cemeteries, hospitals, homelessness, and the temporary nature of worldly life.
- Connects Allah’s creation and provision to human purpose, worshipping Allah alone, and following Muhammad.
- Urges immediate obedience, taqwa, Hajj when able, resisting sin by remembering Allah sees us, and reflecting on Quranic warnings.
In the khateeb's words
“spend time to thank Allah that you can breathe you may not have a lot of money but you good”
“when you see somebody suffering make dua to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala”
“think about how to implement so that you keep saving in your spiritual account before the day arrives in which you cannot have no savings”
“there's a sense of purpose there's a reason why you were created ask yourself what is that reason am I really living up to expectation”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminds us that Allah created us, provides for us, and sent a messenger so our lives have a purpose. It asks us to notice ordinary blessings, breathing, food, safety, and health, and thank Allah rather than focus only on what we lack. When people are sick or struggling, we should make dua for them and never mock their hardship. The speaker encourages reflection on cemeteries, hospitals, and homelessness so we remember the temporary nature of dunya and prepare our souls. We should worship Allah alone, follow the Prophet, purify our hearts, and act on opportunities such as Hajj before they pass.
- What is one blessing you often overlook but could thank Allah for today?
- How can our family support someone who is sick or struggling?
- What would it mean to make spiritual savings this week?
