Seek Allah's reward in the last ten nights
“Sacrifice some sleep, sacrifice some time for the sake of Allah, and you will never regret it.”
Because the last ten nights of Ramadan may contain Laylat al-Qadr and are not guaranteed to return, Muslims should urgently intensify worship, charity, remembrance, and family encouragement to seek Allah's forgiveness and reward.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Urges listeners to use the remaining Ramadan days despite earlier shortcomings.
- Explains the Prophet's intensified worship and family wakefulness during the last ten nights.
- Presents congregational prayer, rawatib, Taraweeh, Witr, and qiyam as accessible worship opportunities.
- Uses stories of early Muslims to illustrate extraordinary commitment to nightly prayer.
- Encourages increased Quran recitation, dua, dhikr, i'tikaf, charity, zakat, and family outreach.
- Explains the exceptional value of Laylat al-Qadr and closes with supplication.
In the khateeb's words
“Ramadan is passing quickly just as our lives are passing quickly. And we always want to increase in our ibadah as our age gets closer to the grave.”
“The scholars say that this is the special time for us to push ourselves. Even if you have fell short the last two-thirds or the last 20 days, now you have opportunity to redeem yourself and sacrifice.”
“sacrifice some sleep sacrifice some time for the sake of Allah and you will never regret it”
For the dinner table
The final ten nights of Ramadan are a precious chance to turn back to Allah, even if we fell short earlier. The Prophet increased his worship and woke his family during these nights while seeking Laylat al-Qadr. We can join congregational prayers, pray Taraweeh and Witr, read more Quran, make dua, and remember Allah. If possible, we can spend time in i'tikaf, give charity, fulfill zakat, and encourage our relatives and friends. The message is to sacrifice some comfort now because one night of worship may be better than a thousand months.
- What is one small act of worship you could add during the last ten nights?
- How could our family help one another worship with sincerity and encouragement?
- What would you ask Allah for on Laylat al-Qadr, and why?
