Stand against oppression and care for the suffering
“Allah SWT is the one who is in control of all things.”
Muslims should confront spiritual and human forms of shaitan by grounding themselves in Allah, speaking truth to oppression, repairing relationships, and helping those facing hardship.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Recalls Hamza’s martyrdom and the Ansar’s mourning to illustrate communal care.
- Connects “our Hamza” to Sudan, Palestine, food insecurity, and local suffering.
- Explains human and jinn shayateen as forces of deception, oppression, and division.
- Calls listeners to speak truth, act rather than remain bystanders, and make dua.
- Urges family repair, charity, food-bank support, and practical community empathy.
- Closes by centering Allah, self-examination, and prayers for relief and forgiveness.
In the khateeb's words
“Alhamdulillah that whatever I have, I can go to a food bank and drop off what I have extra.”
“But when you recognize that Allah SWT is the grounding force, that Allah SWT is the one who is in control of all things.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb used the story of the companions responding to concern for Hamza to remind us to notice people who are suffering without enough support, especially in Sudan. He urged us to care about Palestine and neighbors facing food insecurity, and to move from watching the news to helping where we can. He warned that shaitan encourages family division and makes us afraid to give, while everything we have comes from Allah. We can respond by strengthening our relationships, speaking truth, sharing extra food, and making dua for others. Through it all, he reminded us to stay mindful of Allah and examine our own behavior so that we treat people with care.
- Who might feel forgotten this week, and how could we show them we care?
- What could our family share with a food bank to help our neighbors?
