Trust Allah when du'as are delayed
Uqbah · Mohamed Noor
“I don't carry the burden of answering my own du'as.”
In one sentence
Du'a is an act of worship and dependence on Allah, and delays or nonacceptance may result from insincerity, impatience, harmful requests, distraction, or disobedience.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Du'a demonstrates human weakness and dependence on Allah, illustrated through the analogy of a sword and its handler.
- Allah commands people to call upon Him, and believers should make du'a regularly rather than only during crises.
- Allah's mercy and generosity exceed human generosity, making reliance on Him honorable and spiritually important.
- The khateeb identifies five obstacles to accepted du'a: insincerity, impatience, harmful requests, an absent heart, and disobedience.
- Listeners are urged to trust Allah's wisdom, maintain family ties, focus during du'a, and practice taqwa.
- The khutbah closes with an invitation to an evening program, reminders about benefiting from counsel, and supplications.

Quotes
In the khateeb's words
“dua is a showcasing of your lack of ability dua is a showcasing of your incapability and your lack of strength as a human as a creation of the everlasting and all-powerful creator”
“there are things that we do that get in the way of Allah being generous to us there are things that we manifest with our actions and our words”
“Allah doesn't work for you Allah controls the universe and everything inside of it and Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala does things how He wants to do them”
“I don't carry the burden of answering my own du'as and that's true you don't carry the burden of answering your own du'as”
Talk about it at home
For the dinner table
The khutbah teaches that du'a is worship and a humble admission that we need Allah. We should call upon Him directly, sincerely, and consistently, rather than only turning to Him during emergencies. Du'a may be delayed when we are insincere, impatient, asking for something harmful, distracted, or disobedient. We should trust Allah's wisdom, keep family ties, focus our hearts, and continue doing good.
- When do you find it easiest or hardest to make du'a?
- What does a focused heart during prayer feel like?
- How can we keep family ties when disagreements happen?
