Trust Allah when hardship tests you
“They have more trust in Allah than what their physical body sees.”
In one sentence
The khutbah teaches that victory and peace come from trusting Allah beyond appearances, especially when hardship tests the soul.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Introduces the Quranic story of Talut, Jalut, and Dawud and the Israelites’ demand for a king.
- Recounts the river test that reduced Talut’s army and the believers’ fear before Jalut’s larger force.
- Emphasizes that Allah granted victory through steadfast faith, not superior strength or tactics.
- Interprets the story through three states of the nafs: the ease-seeking, wavering, and tranquil selves.
- Closes by connecting the tranquil soul with trusting Allah, remembering Him, and entering Paradise pleased with Him.

Talk about it at home
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah revisited the Quranic story of Talut, Jalut, and Dawud, where a small group faced a much stronger army. The khateeb said the deepest battle was inside each person: would they choose ease and fear, or trust Allah and remain steadfast? He described three responses of the nafs, ending with the tranquil soul that trusts Allah more than what the eyes can see. We can ask Allah to help us choose faith, patience, and remembrance when our own tests feel bigger than us.
- What is one difficult thing where trusting Allah could change your response?
- When do you notice yourself choosing comfort over courage?
- What helps your heart feel peaceful when you are worried?
