Trust and gratitude strengthen our communities
“You should strengthen your brotherhood and your sisterhood.”
The khutbah teaches believers to trust Allah after seeking guidance, nurture lasting relationships, practice generous hospitality, and remain grateful for everyday blessings.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Accept decisions made after istikhara without panic, regret, or dwelling on the past.
- Learn enduring friendship and brotherhood from the Prophet’s relationship with Abu Ayyub al-Ansari.
- Build communities marked by trust, encouragement, help, and freedom from backbiting and envy.
- Honor every guest equally and offer hospitality naturally and generously.
- Recognize food and home blessings, say bismillah and salam, and thank Allah.
- Pray for stronger faith, families, communities, and suffering people around the world.
In the khateeb's words
“you can't live your life regretting things you can't live in sadness and regret and anger on the past you can't change it anyway”
“the more you spend time with your brother and sister you should strengthen your brotherhood and your sisterhood”
“we need to thank Allah we need to appreciate what we have ask Allah to continue His blessing in all of us my dear brother and sister”
For the dinner table
The khutbah teaches us to ask Allah for guidance when making difficult choices, then move forward without living in regret. It reminds us that real friendship should survive travel, work, hardship, and time, with believers helping and trusting one another. Abu Ayyub’s welcome of the Prophet and his guests shows us to honor everyone, share what we have generously, and be natural rather than showy. We should remember that food, homes, and other blessings are gifts from Allah, so we say bismillah, greet our families, and give thanks. The khutbah closes by asking Allah to strengthen our faith, families, neighbors, and communities and to help people suffering around the world.
- What does it mean to be a true friend when life becomes difficult?
- How can we make every guest feel welcome?
- What is one blessing we should thank Allah for tonight?
