Build your faith through steady worship
“You could be a thousand steps away from Allah, but it only takes one step to go back to Allah.”
Because Allah is always near, Muslims should preserve their Ramadan connection through small, consistent acts of worship throughout the year.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Reestablishing connection with Allah after Ramadan
- Allah’s nearness and response to sincere prayer
- Consistency over overwhelming religious practice
- Examples of Umar, Abu Bakr, and Bilal
- Choosing and steadily building one good deed
In the khateeb's words
“You could be a thousand steps away from Allah, but it only takes one step to go back to Allah.”
“So whatever we do, we don't need to overwhelm ourselves. We don't. We don't need to burden ourselves. But whatever we choose to do, we need to stick by it, even though it's a little.”
“So brothers and sisters, Allah is near. But the question is, Are we far from Allah? Because Allah, He doesn't complain. And the doors of Allah are always open.”
For the dinner table
Shaikh Shahid reminded us that our connection with Allah is something we need every day, like a fish needs water. Ramadan helps strengthen that connection, but we can keep nurturing it throughout the year. He emphasized that Allah is near and that returning to Him can begin with a prayer or a step toward Him. He encouraged us to choose a small good deed and keep doing it consistently without overwhelming ourselves. Through stories about the companions, he showed how steady worship and humble service to others can be deeply meaningful.
- What is one small good deed you would like to make part of your day?
- How could our family help someone quietly, without expecting praise?
- What helped you feel connected to Allah during Ramadan that you would like to continue?
