Faith is the greatest investment in life
The greatest investment is sincere faith in Allah expressed through sacrifice and living by Quranic guidance, which brings success in this life and the hereafter.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Explains Surah As-Saf’s profitable trade: faith, striving, sacrifice, forgiveness, paradise, and victory.
- Defines supporting Allah’s religion through words, actions, family, work, knowledge, and community.
- Introduces Surah Al-Jum’ah’s themes of the Prophet’s mission, Friday’s virtue, and Islam’s universal reach.
- Warns against possessing revelation without acting on it, like a donkey carrying books.
- Applies the warning by asking whether Quran changes patience, honesty, and worship.
- Closes by reminding listeners that death is approaching and they must prepare to meet Allah.
In the khateeb's words
“Supporting Allah's religion isn't simply about believing in it. It's about living by it and contributing to it.”
“Although this parable was specifically given regarding the Jews, its meaning also applies to anyone who carries the Quran, yet abandons acting upon it, fails to fulfill its rights, and does not give it the care and attention it deserves.”
“Every day that passes brings us closer to that meeting. The question is, are we ready for that meeting?”
For the dinner table
Today's khutbah began with a beautiful offer from Allah in Surah As-Saf: 'Shall I guide you to a trade that will save you from a painful punishment?' That trade is believing in Allah and His Messenger and striving for His sake with our wealth and ourselves. In return, Allah promises forgiveness, Paradise, beautiful homes and the greatest success, along with help and victory in this life too. The khateeb reminded us that Allah's commands are not restrictions but the way to real success, and that we should each be 'supporters of Allah' through how we live, raise our families, work and help our communities. From Surah Al-Jumu'ah, we heard the example of a donkey carrying books it cannot understand, a warning not to carry the Qur'an without living by it. Finally, he reminded us that death is not chasing us, it is coming to meet us, so every day is a chance to get ready for that meeting.
- If you could invest one hour of your week in something Allah loves, what would you choose?
- What is one way you could be a 'supporter of Allah' at school or with your friends this week?
- What is one thing from the Qur'an you know that you could actually put into practice tomorrow?
