Patience through trials leads to eternal reward
“You have been created to worship and then to end up with judgment.”
Worldly life and suffering are temporary, while patient faith, worship, and good character lead believers toward eternal reward in Jannah.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Frames life as temporary dunya, transition, judgment, and eternal Jannah.
- Uses stories of bereavement and illness to illustrate patience and certainty in Allah’s reward.
- Contrasts Pharaoh’s worldly power with Allah’s ultimate authority in the Hereafter.
- Emphasizes that Jannah is worth prayer, Quran recitation, night worship, charity, and perseverance.
- Presents three character qualities: abandoning arguments, avoiding lies, and practicing good manners.
- Closes with supplications for guidance, family righteousness, unity, and relief from suffering.
In the khateeb's words
“You have been created to worship and then to end up with judgment.”
“Make any decree, make any judgements you think because your power is only in the dunya. The power you have, if you want to do something evil, that's only in dunya.”
“the one who abandons arguments, even if you are right, 100% you are right, but you leave it for the sake of Allah SWT, then you have a house in the surroundings of Yemen.”
“There's nothing called small line, big line, white line. Something very little, it's serious, something very big, it's serious, all of it classifying as lying.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that this life is temporary, while the life after judgment is eternal. The khateeb used stories of grieving and suffering believers to show that patience is easier when we remember the Jannah Allah has promised. He encouraged us to fill our days with prayer, Quran, night worship, charity, and other acts that draw us toward Jannah. He also highlighted three everyday qualities: leave arguments even when we are right, do not lie even as a joke, and practice good manners. Our family takeaway is to choose one of those qualities this week and practice it deliberately.
- What is one argument you could choose to leave this week?
- When is it hardest to tell the truth, even about something small?
- What would good manners look like in our family this week?
