Keep returning to the Quran through every trial
“When times are good, he calls on Allah, and when times are hard, he calls on Allah.”
The Qur'an is Allah's enduring reminder, so believers should return to it constantly, trust Allah through hardship and blessing, reject arrogance and apathy, and respond with worship, forgiveness, and service on the path to Jannah.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- The Qur'an requires continual remembrance because people are forgetful.
- Worldly blessings do not determine ultimate success or Allah's favor.
- The story of the elephant illustrates Allah's power to protect and overturn overwhelming threats.
- Believers should call on Allah in ease and hardship and respond to trials with patience.
- Shaitan's arrogance warns against pride, comparison, and believing worldly achievements are permanent.
- Believers should pursue mercy through worship, repentance, forgiveness, charity, and community service.
- The khutbah concludes with announcements about rights training, service projects, food distribution, and classes.
In the khateeb's words
“When times are good He calls on Allah And when times are hard He calls on Allah”
“Even if you are One yourself Who's in need You can still Receive the blessing Of helping”
“We have Ramadan We have our five daily prayers And we have structure In this religion Where we can't just Wing it In how we want to Practice this religion”
“Forgiveness Is not weakness It is strength And it earns Us paradise”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that the Qur’an is a reminder we need to return to often, because we forget. He encouraged us to call on Allah when life is going well and when we are struggling, and to remember that our blessings come from Him. He warned against thinking we are better than others because of what we have or how we were created. Through the story of a sister who came to help distribute groceries even though she needed food herself, he showed that everyone can contribute something. He also encouraged us to seek forgiveness, control our anger, and forgive others as we hope for Allah’s mercy and Jannah.
- What is one reminder from the Qur’an you want to carry into this week?
- How could we help someone this week using something we already have?
- What could help you work through an angry feeling before bedtime?
