Make the same sacrifices for Allah
“The problem isn't the money; it is what we think is worth the money.”
Muslims lavish time, money, and sacrifice on entertainment like the FIFA World Cup while withholding the same devotion from Allah and the deen, and we must realign our priorities toward what benefits us in this dunya and the akhirah.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Opening: people made huge sacrifices (money, sleep, jobs) to watch World Cup matches
- Challenge: do we make the same sacrifice for Allah, tahajjud, fajr, learning the deen?
- Excuses dismantled: 'too expensive', 'too hard', 'too long' are disproven by our sports habits
- We memorize players' stats but won't learn salah or Quran basics
- Local wake-up calls: brother Suhail stabbed 15 times; family killed in car crash despite being huffaz and alim students
- Conclusion: death is near, return to Allah and make sacrifices for the deen
In the khateeb's words
“same sacrifice for Allah do we make that same sacrifice for Allah or even close to that sacrifice and the reality is”
“we make time for what matters to us we make time for what matters to us this is showing you what matters to you”
“the problem isn't the money it is what we think is worth the money it is what we think is worth the money”
“one was our dear brother suhail who was stabbed 15 times stabbed 15 times as a muslim because of his faith”
For the dinner table
The khateeb spoke about the FIFA World Cup and how Muslims around the world made huge sacrifices for it, spending savings, losing sleep, even losing jobs, just to watch 90-minute matches, and never complained. Then he asked the hard question: do we make even a fraction of that sacrifice for Allah? He reminded us that the problem isn't money or time, we proved we have both when it came to the matches, the problem is what our hearts are attached to. He gave the example of fans who memorize everything about their favorite players, down to their shoe size, while we struggle to learn the basics of our salah. He also shared two recent tragedies that shook the community, a brother stabbed for his faith, and a pious family of huffaz lost in a car crash, to remind us that none of us knows how much time we have left. His message was simple: we make time for what truly matters to us, so let's make Allah and His deen what matters most.
- If someone watched how you spend your free time for one week, what would they say you love most?
- What's one small thing, like 20 minutes with the Quran, you could do every day the way fans never miss a match?
- Fans memorize everything about their favorite players, what's something about the deen you'd like to know that well?
