Root faith in God and benefit others

“The believer is built to thrive and to be a benefit to others when times are difficult.”

The khateeb, at 14:08

In one sentence

A believer should root life in La ilaha illallah and nourish faith through remembrance, devotion, and service so that, like a good tree, they remain upright and benefit others.

For the dinner table

Today's khutbah used a tree as a picture of a believer. Faith in Allah is the root, and remembrance, worship, and service help it grow. Like a date palm, a believer should stay upright in hard conditions and bring benefit to family, neighbors, coworkers, classmates, and the wider community. We can begin by remembering Allah, reading the Qur'an, praying and making dua, and choosing one act of service.

  1. What is one way our family can be a source of peace or comfort this week?
  2. Which act of zikr, devotion, or service would you like to practice today?
