Every Muslim helps build a stronger ummah
“Building power is not a job of a few people.”
Muslims must continually and collectively build diverse forms of power, spiritual, educational, economic, institutional, relational, and defensive, because communal strength depends on every individual contributing and resisting excessive love of worldly life.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Explains the Quranic command to prepare power and cavalry as a call to continual readiness after Badr.
- Broadens power beyond military force to technology, wealth, education, faith, Quran, institutions, alliances, and connections.
- Uses war horses to illustrate how preparation requires money, training, farming, care, and participation from the whole community.
- Applies the principle to recurring suffering among Muslims, emphasizing both immediate assistance and long-term communal development.
- Explains that individuals should contribute different skills and resources rather than trying to excel in every area.
- Uses the hadith of foam on water and wahan to diagnose excessive love of worldly life as collective weakness.
- Closes with supplications, a brief masjid donation reminder, and Quran-program announcements.
In the khateeb's words
“Power is very vast, way beyond just having guns and soldiers and rockets and airplanes. Although that is absolutely power.”
“Building power is not a job of a few people. It's not the job of the elite or the government or whatever”
“The strength of the Ummah, or the community, or of a group, or the weakness of them is nothing but the collective sum of the strength of its individuals or the weakness of its individuals.”
“The primary focus is this life, the pleasures of this life. This is the killer. This is how the weakness happens individually and collectively.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah taught that strength is more than weapons or money. The khateeb explained that a healthy Muslim community prepares continuously and depends on every person contributing a different skill, resource, or form of service. He connected this to the suffering Muslims face and urged both immediate compassion and long-term institution-building. He also warned that loving worldly life too much can weaken our courage, purpose, and will. We can respond by strengthening our faith, using our abilities, supporting good community work, and remembering the akhirah.
- What is one skill or resource you could share with our community?
- How can we care about this life without letting it distract us from the akhirah?
- What kind of preparation should Muslims practice after a victory or a difficult time?
