Allah’s love comes through ihsan and obedience
“Allah is free from the blasphemy that humanity has associated by claiming that He has a partner.”
Allah loves His servants far beyond human measure, and the way to attain His love is through ihsan, worshipping and obeying Him with constant God-consciousness, sincere intention, and adherence to the Sunnah.
The khutbah in 8 steps
- Opening praise, tawhid, and the command to hasten to Jummah remembrance
- Allah needs no one; shirk is unforgivable, and tawhid is His gift of love to us
- Iblis works by causing despair when we see injustice; Allah commands us never to despair of His mercy
- The mother-child bond (hadith on parents' rights, Hayat al-Sahaba story, mother of Musa) as a window into Allah's greater love
- Bilal (RA) under torture: love of Allah proven through steadfastness
- Allah loves the muhsineen; Hadith of Jibreel defines Islam, Iman, and Ihsan
- Ihsan applied: active God-consciousness before acting, ikhlas, dua, and tasting the sweetness of iman
- Closing: love Allah by following the Prophet (3:31), dua, and Salah
In the khateeb's words
“My dear respected elders, brothers, sisters, beloved youngsters and students in Islam”
“Allah is free from the blasphemy that humanity has associated by claiming that He has a partner”
“there is no safeguard or there is nothing that can protect you”
For the dinner table
Today the khateeb spoke about gaining Allah's love. He reminded us that Allah doesn't need our worship at all, it is Allah's love for us, placed in our hearts, that lets us love and remember Him. He warned that Shaytan's trick is to make us despair when we see injustice, but Allah tells us never to lose hope in His mercy, because He is closer to us than our own jugular vein. He shared how much Allah honors mothers, and then told us that Allah loves His servant seventy times more than even a mother loves her child. The way to gain Allah's love is ihsan, worshipping Allah as if we see Him, and knowing He sees us in everything we do, with sincere hearts and good deeds. And no matter how many times we fall, if we turn back and ask forgiveness, Allah keeps forgiving, when we walk toward Him, He comes running.
- Allah loves you seventy times more than your mom loves you, how does that make you feel?
- What's one thing you could do this week while remembering that Allah is watching you, like the khateeb said about ihsan?
- When something unfair happens in the world, Shaytan wants us to give up hope, what can we do instead?
