Death & the hereafterFrom the masjid's own video, Sep 3, 2025.

Prepare now for a good ending

“The way you live you're gonna die and the way you die you're gonna be resurrected and come back to life.”

The khateeb, at 24:56

In one sentence

Because death may come without warning and a person’s ending reflects how he lived, Muslims should prepare through consistent worship, sincere repentance, hidden good deeds, prayer, and hope in Allah.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Warns that death and the Day of Judgment are certain and may come suddenly.
  2. Explains husn al-khatimah as being guided to sincere repentance and righteous deeds before death.
  3. Urges believers to avoid heedlessness, habitual sin, and delaying worship or repentance.
  4. Emphasizes consistent prayer, sincerity, hidden good deeds, and hope paired with action.
  5. Lists reported signs of a good ending while warning that they are indications, not guarantees.
  6. Concludes with frequent supplication for a good ending, especially Sayyid al-Istighfar, followed by announcements and prayers.
Try this week

Perform deeds sincerely for Allah and conceal good deeds when possible.
Do not postpone prayer, Hajj, Ramadan fasting, repentance, or other good deeds.

For the dinner table

Brother Ihab reminded us that preparing for death and the Hereafter begins with how we live each day. He encouraged us to keep our prayers, build steady habits of goodness, and do things sincerely for Allah, even when the deeds seem small. When we make mistakes, we should ask Allah for forgiveness and turn back to Him without putting it off. He taught us to have hope in Allah and accompany that hope with good actions. He also reminded us that only Allah knows a person's final outcome, and encouraged us to make du'a for a good ending.

  1. What small good deed could you make a regular part of your day?
  2. What good thing have you been saving for later that you could start today?
  3. How can we encourage each other to ask Allah for forgiveness and try again after a mistake?
