Voting and service are religious duties
“Wherever they went, they changed the entire society, not by force, but by akhlaq, by behavior.”
Muslims in this country must treat voting and broader civic service as a religious responsibility: do sincere, informed work for justice and future generations while trusting Allah with the results.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Opens by describing Jum'ah as a day of reflection, purification, forgiveness, and multiplied reward.
- Defines a good life as faith joined with righteous action, not merely wealth or personal comfort.
- Explains that society shapes individuals and that each generation must preserve faith and improve its community.
- Uses low local Muslim voter turnout to reject minority apathy and urge informed voting.
- Connects civic action with patience, prayer, sincerity, sacrifice, and the example of the early Muslims.
- Closes by calling for social service, good character, justice, and responsibility toward future generations.
In the khateeb's words
“our existence in this world is not only to make money it's not only to have a a good life”
“you do your part and i will take care of the rest”
“Wherever they went, they changed the entire society, not by force, but by akhlaq, by behavior.”
“the true merit is when your enemies praise you when your enemy praise you that's the true merit that is the true achievement”
For the dinner table
The khutbah says our purpose is bigger than earning money or building a comfortable private life. Faith should lead us to good action that improves the society around us, including our families, neighborhoods, and country. The imam urges Muslims not to dismiss their vote because they are a minority; instead, they should research, participate, and choose as responsibly as they can. He also stresses that real influence comes through sincerity, patience, charity, care, and good character, not force. We should do our part for justice and future generations, then trust Allah with the results.
- What is one way our family can serve our neighborhood this week?
- How can we make a thoughtful choice when we vote or support a community issue?
- What does leading by example look like at school or with friends?
