Faith must become daily work for justice
“I would never allow any work that any of you do to be lost, whether male or female.”
Because salvation ultimately depends on Allah’s mercy but is demonstrated through sincere, purposeful righteous work, believers must turn faith into daily action that serves society, resists oppression, and prepares them for the afterlife.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Acknowledges listeners’ blessings alongside suffering in Palestine, Sudan, and elsewhere, urging advocacy for the oppressed.
- Uses the Prophet Muhammad’s example to frame social transformation and distinguish Allah’s mercy from religious arrogance.
- Defines a faith worker as someone whose purposeful, sincere actions contribute to repairing society.
- Explains that good deeds can erase unintended wrongdoing and that Allah judges sincerity and work rather than identity or status.
- Urges immediate action, prayer, Qur’anic practice, and learning from early Muslim scholars about living revelation.
- Concludes with the eternal reward of righteous work and a call to join community efforts through the QR code.
In the khateeb's words
“It is by virtue of what you contribute to the world and the intentions behind it That will make you a good person”
“God says in very clear Language I would never allow any work that any of you do to be lost whether male or female”
“Now it's our job To fill in the gaps And be together as believers To fulfill this work in the community”
For the dinner table
The speaker begins by recognizing the blessings many listeners enjoy while people in Palestine, Sudan, and elsewhere suffer. He explains that Allah’s mercy ultimately saves us, but sincere and purposeful righteous work demonstrates our faith. The Qur’an should guide our choices and actions, not be limited to recitation, and good deeds can help repair unintended wrongdoing. Because death can come at any time, we should act today through prayer, service, and resistance to oppression. The khutbah ends by inviting people to share their information for community work and asking Allah to unite and strengthen them.
- What is one good action you can begin today?
- How can we help fill a gap in our community?
- What does it mean to make the Qur’an part of our actions?
