Muslims must unite against division
“A house divided against itself cannot stand.”
The reason Muslim nations fail to aid the oppressed (e.g., Gaza) is Shaytan's divide-and-conquer strategy, sectarian, tribal, colonial, and geopolitical fragmentation, and the remedy is holding fast together to the covenant (rope) of Allah and renewing faith.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Opening taqwa reminder and thanks to Allah
- Problem posed: why do Muslim nations not help the oppressed, because Muslims are weak, divided, and bought by materialism
- Topic announced: the divide-and-conquer rule of Shaytan, who attacks from four directions
- The covenant (habl/rope) of Allah: the shahada as a bond, renewed five times daily
- Causes of division: colonialism and language theft, sectarian labels, tribalism, geopolitics and foreign military bases
- Shaytan's tactics: breaking families, racism, fear, media confusion, the ego ('edging God out')
- Closing dua, brief zakat/bills appeal, and prayer reminders
In the khateeb's words
“oppressed nations of the earth and that is the divide and conquer rule of the shaitan”
“in the bible it says this in luke 11 17 a house divided against itself cannot stand”
“waslam warned us against tribalism he said because it divides people and causes unfair treatment”
For the dinner table
Today the khateeb talked about what he called the divide and conquer rule of the shaitan, the way Muslims get split apart by sects, tribes, politics, and fear until they stop helping one another. He said this division is why oppressed people, like those in Gaza, are left waiting while wealthy nations sit idle with tight fists. He reminded us that the shahada is a covenant, a rope of love tying each of us to Allah, and that we renew it five times a day in prayer. He warned us that shaitan attacks from every direction, through the media, through racism, through breaking up families, and through our own egos, which he said means 'edging God out.' But he ended with hope: Allah has given us the richness of faith, forgiveness, and mercy, and a small band that trusts Allah can overcome a big one. His call to us was to hold fast together, stay grateful, and never lose hope.
- The imam said 'ego' means 'edging God out', what's one time this week you noticed your ego getting in the way?
- If a small group that trusts Allah can beat a big group, what's something that feels too big for you right now that you could hand over to Allah?
- The imam said the shahada is like a rope connecting you to Allah, what do you do each day to keep that rope strong?
