Death & the hereafterFrom the masjid's own video, Aug 22, 2026.

Death is certain, so prepare today

“The most beloved deeds to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala are those deeds done with istiqamah.”

The khateeb, at 15:51

In one sentence

Because death is certain and its timing unknown, Muslims should prepare to meet Allah now through consistent worship, charity, repentance, reconciliation, and care for family rather than postponing religious life.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Reframes success around what one sends forward for tomorrow and meeting Allah.
  2. Establishes death as inevitable and its timing unknowable, unlike worldly plans.
  3. Warns against delaying prayer, Quran, charity, and religious commitment until later.
  4. Teaches istiqamah: small, regular deeds matter more than unsustained bursts.
  5. Applies the message to worship, charity, reconciliation, parents, and children.
  6. Concludes with prayers for taqwa and Arabic khutbah and salah recitations.
Try this week
Recite a small amount of Quran daily, even five minutes.
Gradually establish all five daily prayers if they are not yet consistent.
Give charity today, even if the amount is small.
Contact a family member or someone you have hurt, setting pride aside.
Speak gently to parents and teach children the religion.

For the dinner table

The khutbah reminds us that death is the one certainty in life, even though we do not know when it will come. We should prepare to meet Allah instead of assuming we can become religious later. Small, consistent deeds such as prayer, Quran, and charity are better than brief efforts that quickly disappear. Preparation also includes repairing relationships, speaking gently to parents, and teaching children their religion. The khutbah ends by asking Allah to grant us taqwa and be pleased with us when we meet Him.

  1. What is one small good deed you could do every day this week?
  2. Who could you speak to kindly or reconcile with?
  3. What does preparing for tomorrow with Allah mean in your life?
