Daily prayer makes faith real
“The claim of being serious or committed to Islam without these five prayers cannot stand.”
A Muslim’s religion must become real through the five pillars, six articles of faith, ihsan, and continual preparation for the unknown Hour, especially by prioritizing prayer and resisting moral inversion.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- The Hadith of Gabriel introduces Islam’s five pillars, emphasizing prayer as its central column.
- Faith requires inward conviction in Allah, revelation, the unseen, and divine destiny.
- Ihsan means worshipping with awareness that Allah sees us, freeing believers from people’s validation.
- The timing of the Hour is unknowable, so believers should prepare rather than predict it.
- Signs of moral inversion warn against greed, cruelty, and neglect of family responsibilities.
- The khutbah closes with counsel to follow the Quran and Sunnah and make dua for a deceased community member.
In the khateeb's words
“the claim of being serious or committed to Islam without these five prayers cannot stand”
“you will never be more free than when you break away from having to be validated by people and the eyes of people needing to be seen by others”
“don't give in to the greed don't give in to the cruelty between people let alone between a parent and a child”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah used the Hadith of Gabriel to explain Islam through five pillars, faith through six beliefs, and excellence through worshipping Allah with awareness that He sees us. The speaker emphasized that prayer is the central pillar and that belief must be real in the heart, not merely outward practice. We do not know when the Day of Judgment will come, so we should prepare through faithful living rather than trying to predict its date. He urged us to resist greed, cruelty, and the reversal of family responsibilities by looking through the Quran and Sunnah. He also asked the community to make dua for a community member’s father who had died, especially in sujood and during the Friday hours before Maghrib.
- Where do you notice people caring too much about being seen, and what helps you act with sincerity?
- What is one small way our family can protect the five daily prayers this week?
- How can we show mercy and respect inside our family when life feels busy?
