“Authenticity for us, brothers and sisters, is aligning our lives with its purpose.”

The khateeb, at 8:42

Human purpose is to worship Allah, then use one's God-given abilities and interests to serve permissible needs in ways that please Him, rather than chasing fleeting happiness or narrow worldly success.

For the dinner table

Allah did not create us randomly; our deepest purpose is to worship Him. Our worth is not measured only by happiness, money, a job title, or getting into one particular school. We should ask what abilities and interests Allah gave us, then use them in ways that please Him and meet real needs. Parents should help children explore, make mistakes, and grow rather than forcing one narrow picture of success. Our gifts are trusts, and we will be accountable for how we used them.

  1. What is one ability Allah has given you, and how could it help someone else?
  2. What does success mean besides getting the highest grades or the most prestigious job?
  3. How can our family give each other more room to try, learn, and make mistakes?
