Let the Quran change how you live

“Let the page finish something inside you.”

The khateeb, at 15:55

In one sentence

The Qur'an was revealed not merely to increase knowledge but to transform daily conduct, so believers should read reflectively, choose concrete changes, and live by its guidance.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Introduces the fifth key to engaging with the Qur'an: reading it to act and live by it, not merely to know it.
  2. Explains that reflection should produce changes in forgiveness, patience, honesty, charity, and avoiding gossip.
  3. Uses the Prophet's forgiveness and immediate obedience, along with the companions' responses, as examples of living the Qur'an.
  4. Recommends mastering and practicing small groups of verses, including one actionable ayah each week.
  5. Applies the principle to inheritance rights, online rumors, divorce, and community division.
  6. Closes by urging listeners to ask what each ayah requires them to change and select one practical action.
Try this week
Read the Qur'an intending to act on it, not merely learn its meanings.
After each ayah, ask what Allah wants you to change and choose one small action.
Practice one ayah each week in Qur'an study circles instead of focusing only on memorization.
Verify information before sharing it; if it cannot be verified, do not forward it.
Leave a gossip conversation if you cannot stop it.
Repair relationships, forgive, honor inheritance rights, and improve one act of worship.

For the dinner table

Today's khutbah taught that the Qur'an is meant to change how we live, not only increase what we know. We should read with an open heart and ask what Allah wants us to change through each ayah. We can choose one small action, a habit to stop, a good deed to begin, a relationship to repair, a sin to leave, or an act of worship to improve. The Prophet and his companions showed this by responding quickly to Allah's commands, forgiving others, and living the Qur'an in difficult situations. This week, our family can practice one verse together and let it shape our words and choices.

  1. What is one Qur'an verse or teaching that could change something we do this week?
  2. How can we respond when we hear a rumor that we cannot verify?
  3. What small act of kindness or forgiveness could our family practice together?
