The Quran revives hearts and guides life
“The people of the Quran are the people of Allah and His special people.”
The khutbah argues that building a sincere relationship with the Quran through recitation, understanding, and obedience revives the heart, strengthens faith, and guides life.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Opens with prayers for the sick and deceased, Rajab, and mosque announcements.
- Calls listeners to recognize the Quran as Allah’s revelation and guiding principle.
- Explains that engaging, understanding, reciting, and obeying the Quran revives hearts and raises faith.
- Warns that sin, distraction, and heedlessness harden hearts and block guidance.
- Uses Quran-centered people in Gaza as an example of steadfastness during captivity and war.
- Urges a renewed Quran commitment before Ramadan, then concludes with supplications and community announcements.
In the khateeb's words
“we don't want these hearts to die we don't want these hearts to become rock solid the Quran doesn't penetrate the kalam of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala”
“this is the closest and the fastest way for a person to change his life for the person to raise his iman is to get closer to the speech of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala”
“the people of the quran are the people of Allah and His special people”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that having the Quran, the words of Allah, is a tremendous gift. He encouraged us to know Allah better by reciting His words, understanding them, and following His commands. He described the Quran as light and nourishment for our hearts, and asked us to protect our attention from distractions and sin. He urged us to listen with the intention of letting the Quran guide our choices, beyond simply enjoying a beautiful voice. With Ramadan approaching, we can begin making more room for the Quran together and ask Allah to soften our hearts and help us live by it.
- What could we change in our family routine to make time for the Quran?
- How could something you learn from the Quran guide a choice you make this week?
