Remember Allah before blessings make you forget

“Don't be amongst the people who forgot Allah so Allah caused them to forget themselves.”

The khateeb, at 25:58

In one sentence

True faith requires continually knowing Allah through His names and responding to blessings with remembrance, gratitude, dua, and worship, because forgetting Allah makes people lose sight of themselves.

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that believing in Allah also calls us to remember who He is in our daily lives. We can know that He provides, forgives, and has power over everything, yet still struggle to let that knowledge guide us when we feel worried or stuck. The imam encouraged us to remember Allah during good times as well as when we need help. He contrasted the garden owner’s pride with Sulaiman’s gratitude to show that blessings are opportunities to thank Allah. As a family, we can learn Allah’s names, use them in our duas, and ask Him to help us remember Him, thank Him, and worship Him well.

  1. What is one blessing you enjoyed today, and how could you thank Allah for it?
  2. What could help you remember Allah on a really good day?
  3. What would you like to learn about Allah’s mercy, forgiveness, or power?
