Resist Shaitan through worship and gratitude
In one sentence
The khutbah teaches that Shaitan is humanity's persistent enemy and urges believers to resist him through obedience, gratitude, protective invocations, focused prayer, and congregational discipline.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Defines Shaitan as an enemy whose name reflects deviation and burning.
- Explains Iblis's disobedience, pride, and vow to mislead Adam's descendants.
- Describes Shaitan's presence in daily actions and the importance of saying Bismillah.
- Identifies Khanzib as the source of distracting thoughts during prayer and gives a remedy.
- Encourages daily invocations, gratitude, focused prayer, and shoulder-to-shoulder congregational rows.
Try this week
Say Bismillah before beginning everyday actions.
When distracted during prayer, seek refuge from Shaitan, turn left, and spit three times.
Use daily invocations, consulting scholars or Husn Muslim for additional duas.
Practice gratitude for Allah's gifts through wealth, strength, and all circumstances.
Keep congregational prayer rows shoulder to shoulder when no valid separation is required.

Surah 36The warning to the children of Adam is used to reject Shaitan's worship and obey Allah.
Quotes
In the khateeb's words
“Whatever Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has endowed you, endeavor to thank Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala with all things, with all ramifications or in all ramifications, with your wealth, with your strength, with everything.”
“So we must know that Shaitan is not our friend.”
“Before you do it, before you climb, say, Bismillah. Everything you want to do, you say, Bismillah, Shaitan will go away from it.”
“What you need to do is just to say, A'udhu billahi minash shaitan al-rajim. Turn to your left side, A'udhu billahi minash shaitan al-rajim, then you speak three times while you are praying.”
Talk about it at home
For the dinner table
Today's khutbah reminded us that Shaitan is an enemy who tries to pull people away from worship and gratitude. The speaker connected this to Iblis refusing Allah's command to bow to Adam and then promising to mislead Adam's descendants. We were encouraged to say Bismillah before everyday actions and to seek Allah's protection when our minds wander in prayer. The khutbah also encouraged using daily duas and keeping prayer rows close together when there is no valid reason to separate.
- Where do we notice pride or comparison in everyday life, and how can gratitude help?
- What distracts us during prayer, and what can we do when that happens?
- What is one blessing we can thank Allah for together this week?
