Put Allah above all else
“Belief and trust in Allah only become real and meaningful when the Creator is put above all else.”
Eid al-Adha calls Muslims to follow Ibrahim's submission and sacrifice by prioritizing Allah, embodying Qur'anic character, supporting youth, and resisting injustice through peaceful action and hope.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Frames Eid al-Adha as a celebration of Ibrahim's faith, sacrifice, and trust in Allah.
- Connects contemporary violence, Islamophobia, racism, and global conflict to the need for moral courage.
- Calls Muslims to challenge anti-Muslim demonization and spread Islam through respect, peace, and social cohesion.
- Urges believers to demonstrate da'wah through character and conduct rather than internal arguments over minor issues.
- Challenges listeners to sacrifice distractions and presents complementary responsibilities for youth and elders.
- Uses Ibrahim's family and Allah's provision as examples of hope during seemingly impossible trials.
- Calls for prayer, financial support, petitions, demonstrations, and solidarity with oppressed communities and remembrance of the sick and deceased.
In the khateeb's words
“We must do better at spreading the message of Islam, the message of respect for all, the message of peace and cohesion in society.”
“It is time we begin to engage in da'wah by actions and deeds, da'wah through living the message.”
“belief and trust in Allah only become real and meaningful when the Creator is put above all else.”
“When it seemed like his infant son and his wife would perish, he did not lose hope of Allah's mercy and compassion.”
For the dinner table
Eid al-Adha reminds us of Prophet Ibrahim and his family's willingness to obey Allah even when obedience demanded real sacrifice. The khateeb asked us to put Allah above social media, entertainment, and other distractions, and to show Islam through respectful, peaceful conduct. Young people should bring energy and initiative, while elders guide them and give them room to lead. When life feels overwhelming, Ibrahim's story teaches us to trust Allah's mercy and never lose hope. We should also remember the sick, the deceased, and people facing oppression by praying, giving support, signing petitions, and joining peaceful demonstrations when able.
- What is one distraction or comfort you could give up to make more room for Allah?
- How can young people and elders help each other grow?
- What is one peaceful way our family can stand with people facing injustice?
