Unity and mercy protect the community
“There is a reward that is given for those that have patience with the Jemaah and patience with the community.”
In one sentence
The Muslim community's survival and success depend on holding together as one jama'ah, practicing shura (mutual consultation), protecting each other's dignity, and resolving conflict with mercy rather than destroying families and institutions, a lesson the Qur'an taught through the setback of Uhud.
The khutbah in 8 steps
- Qur'an and Sunnah together teach us how to navigate real-life situations; general principles are binding on everyone
- Hold to the rope of Allah together (jami'an) and do not split (wala tafarraqu); true al-aun (mutual aid) is selfless, not transactional
- Beware of complacency after victory (Badr): achievement must not end growth
- Uhud taught the Ummah shura: the Prophet deferred to the majority opinion of the youth even against his own view
- Failure at Uhud came from individuals ceasing to act as a jama'ah; leaders who ignore shura should be removed
- Sharia's objectives (per al-Qarafi) include protecting human dignity; Allah honored the children of Adam
- Surat al-Baqarah reconstructs the family: divorce, nursing, and mutual consultation with consent, not force
- Closing applications: handle divorce with rahma not destruction, critique vs. criticism, announcement of his role at Manara Islamic Academy, unity before politicians, salah line as foundation, du'a
Try this week
Be patient with the community and hold together as a jama'ah despite frustrations
When conflicts arise, seek arbitration aimed at bettering conditions, not winning
In divorce, pursue reasonable solutions with rahma, considering children, instead of litigating the family into ruin
Offer critique (constructive, knowledge-based) instead of criticism that leads to slander
Support Manara Islamic Academy with du'a, constructive feedback, investment, and trust
Strengthen the salah line at home and in the masjid as the foundation of unity
Stay united and organized so the community has strength when politicians seek its vote
Donate to and support the project to build another masjid

In the khateeb's words
