The khutbah compared two men who encountered Islam differently after the conquest of Makkah. Ikrimah ibn Abi Jahl discovered Islam's beauty late and held onto it until martyrdom, while Abdullah ibn Abi al-Sarh had known the Quran's light but turned away before returning. The lesson was not to take Ramadan's worship for granted or drift back into old habits. We should keep the Quran, prayer, qiyam, masjid connection, and brotherhood alive as everyday habits. Steadfastness, the khutbah reminded us, is the challenge that begins now.
