Islam calls for balance in every part of life
“Anyone and everyone can practice this deen.”
Islam is a balanced, holistic way of life in which worship, lawful enjoyment, worldly stability, and bringing happiness to others all support closeness to Allah.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Islam is universal, comprehensive, culturally adaptable, and grounded in moderation.
- The Prophet’s example rejects extreme fasting, sleepless prayer, and celibacy in favor of balanced worship.
- Lawful enjoyment of Allah’s blessings and benefiting others are forms of gratitude and beloved deeds.
- Worldly happiness includes a righteous spouse, good neighbor, reliable vehicle, and spacious home, all of which support spiritual growth.
- Eid should be marked by smiles, visits, calls, forgiveness, renewed family ties, and bringing joy to others.
- The khutbah closes with prayers for relief and strength for Muslims facing hardship worldwide, followed by congregational prayer.
In the khateeb's words
“One of the beautiful teachings of our deen Is the moderation and the balance It approaches all matters with It is really holistic It is perfect”
“You don't have to be a scholar You don't have to be a monk You don't have to be exceptional Anyone and everyone Can practice this deen”
For the dinner table
Islam teaches us to worship Allah with balance, without neglecting sleep, marriage, health, or ordinary responsibilities. The Prophet showed that a good Muslim can pray deeply, rest, fast sometimes, eat at other times, marry, work, and care for people. Lawful blessings such as a safe vehicle, peaceful home, good neighbors, and a righteous spouse can support faith and wellbeing. On Eid, we should share happiness through smiles, visits, calls, greetings, forgiveness, and keeping family ties. The khutbah also reminds us to pray for people suffering around the world and to make joy and relief part of our service to Allah.
- What is one kind thing you can do today to make someone smile?
- How can we celebrate Eid in a halal and joyful way?
- Who should we call or visit to strengthen a family tie?
