Trust Allah while taking the means

“Tie your camel up and meanwhile you place your trust in Allah.”

The khateeb, at 28:21

In one sentence

Belief in Allah’s divine decree should produce contentment and submission while still requiring believers to strive, take practical means, and rely on Allah alone.

The khutbah in 5 steps

  1. The khutbah establishes belief in divine decree as a pillar of iman and a path to Allah’s pleasure.
  2. It explains that every event occurs with Allah’s wisdom, while believers accept revealed knowledge and submit what remains unseen.
  3. It teaches the four levels of qadar: Allah’s knowledge, writing, will, and creation.
  4. It clarifies that qadar does not cancel responsibility: believers should work, study, take means, and trust Allah.
  5. It closes by urging sincerity, contentment, and reliance on Allah, followed by prayer.

Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah taught that believing in Allah’s decree is part of faith. Allah knows, has written, wills, and creates everything, even when we cannot see His wisdom. This belief should bring calm and acceptance, but it does not mean sitting still: we should work, study, protect what we have, and take the right means. We tie the camel and then trust Allah, keeping our hearts attached to Him rather than to the means themselves. When life feels confusing, we can do our part sincerely and accept that Allah knows what we do not.

  3. What does “tie your camel and trust Allah” look like at school or at home?
