Faithful Muslims should serve American society
“When you hear about the 250th anniversary of the birth of the United States of America, we are part of the history.”
American Muslims inherit Islam’s universal mission and should honor their history by remaining faithful, contributing to society, and becoming a source of goodness amid hardship.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- The Prophet Muhammad’s mission began with guidance, perseverance, and building believers through tarbiyah.
- The early Muslim community embraced being viewed as strangers while remaining committed to worship.
- The Sahaba spread Islam globally and contributed to education, healthcare, and civilization.
- Muslims have been part of American history from its beginnings and have made lasting contributions.
- American Muslims should claim their belonging and continue serving society despite Islamophobia and racism.
- The community remembers three brothers lost to terror and commits to healing together through faith and mutual support.
In the khateeb's words
“To carry the beautiful message of Islam to the people of the world.”
“They went out to liberate people from the shackles of darkness and misguidance into the light of Islam.”
“When you hear about the 250th anniversary of the birth of the United States of America, we are part of the history.”
“We will never forget them and we will always honor their legacy.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that Islam began with a prophet who stood nearly alone, then patiently built a community through worship and righteous upbringing. The early Muslims carried Islam beyond Arabia and contributed to education, healthcare, and civilization. He said American Muslims are not outsiders to this country’s story; Muslims helped shape its history and continue to serve its people. He also remembered three brothers lost in an attack on the Islamic center and acknowledged the community’s ongoing pain. We should honor their legacy by staying faithful, active, compassionate, and a source of goodness.
- What is one way Muslims have helped build the places where they live?
- What does being a source of goodness look like at school, work, or home?
- How can we remember and support people in our community who are hurting?
