For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah invited us to slow down and notice Allah’s signs in creation, in His revelation, and in His acts. The khateeb pointed to everyday things like water, our bodies, sleep, and rain as opportunities to reflect and be grateful. He explained that marriage brings together affection in good times and mercy and care when life becomes difficult. He also reminded us that our different languages and colors are among Allah’s signs, and that each person is unique. Our response is to pay attention, listen, understand, and seek the knowledge we need to fulfill our responsibilities.

  1. What everyday thing could you pause to look at more carefully tomorrow, and what might it remind you about Allah?
  2. What could mercy look like at home when someone is having a hard day?
  3. What is something you need to learn to take better care of a responsibility you have?
