Build a righteous legacy through lasting deeds
“If you do something for Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, it will always remain.”
Every Muslim should build a righteous, lasting legacy through sincere worship, beneficial service, good character, perseverance, and renewed commitment to Allah.
The khutbah in 4 steps
- Reflects on mortality, remembrance, and the responsibility of one lifetime.
- Identifies enduring deeds: knowledge, charity, institutions, righteous children, and good character.
- Emphasizes sincerity, dua, lofty goals, consistent effort, and perseverance.
- Uses Muharram as an opportunity for a fresh start and greater service to others.
In the khateeb's words
“you only have one chance that Allah SWT has given you from the cradle to the grave no more no less what are you going to do with that time”
“he transformed the people not just the situation he addressed the issues of the society by the revelation of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala”
“If you do things for the people. Or for the dunya. It will go. But if you do something for Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. It will always remain.”
“Even if something that's small but is continuously done, it will build something great.”
For the dinner table
Today's khutbah invited us to think about the good we hope to leave behind and how we use the time Allah gives us. The khateeb described Ibrahim's concern for future generations and the Prophet Muhammad's example of compassion, humility, and care for people. He encouraged us to share beneficial knowledge, support lasting charity, and raise children who love Allah and make dua. He also reminded us that honesty, kindness, and helping others are important parts of a righteous legacy, and that we should act sincerely for Allah. We can aim high while keeping up small good deeds, getting back up when we stumble, and using the new Islamic year as a chance to begin again.
- What kindness would you like people to remember about you?
- What useful thing could you teach someone younger than you?
- What small good deed could our family keep doing each week?
