Worship Allah beyond Ramadan

“In Ramadan, I'm getting this training, so I can continue throughout the year.”

The khateeb, at 7:24

In one sentence

Worshiping Allah is a lifelong obligation, so the spiritual habits developed in Ramadan must continue through consistent, manageable acts throughout the year.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Ramadan is training and preparation, not the final destination of worship.
  2. The purpose of human creation is to worship Allah and seek daily benefit through Quran, Sunnah, and dhikr.
  3. Believers should not undo their strong connection with Allah after Ramadan.
  4. Small, sustainable acts are better than occasional unsustainable bursts of worship.
  5. Believers should strive toward excellence without expecting perfection.
  6. Abandoning worship after Ramadan raises questions about whether one worshiped Allah or merely Ramadan.

For the dinner table

The khateeb reminded us that Ramadan is a school that trains us, not a destination where worship ends. Allah created us to worship Him throughout our whole lives, not only during one month. We should keep a few simple practices going, such as prayer, Quran, dhikr, forgiveness, or regular charity. Small deeds that we continue are better than large efforts that quickly disappear. We should aim to improve without becoming discouraged when we are not perfect.

  1. What is one small good deed you could keep doing every day after Ramadan?
  2. How can our family help one another stay connected to Allah throughout the year?
  3. Why do you think consistency can matter more than doing something very large once?
