Children learn faith from how we live
The khutbah argues that preserving Islam for future generations requires sincere purpose, personal practice, strong families, active community participation, and trust in Allah with the results.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- The community space was transformed by worship, character, and shared spiritual purpose.
- Preserving community blessings requires revisiting intentions and remembering the original foundation.
- Parents must reform and practice faith themselves rather than expecting a magical solution for their children.
- Each person is accountable for effort, sacrifice, generosity, and responsibility toward future generations.
- Families should be strengthened through kindness, shared worship, meals, time together, and less phone-driven disconnection.
- The khutbah addresses Al-Aqsa, responsible civic participation, and welcoming one another during Eid.
In the khateeb's words
“It is not what you've achieved, it's the why. The what comes with time. And it doesn't require sophistication.”
“There is no magical dua. And if I knew there was a magical dua, I would have done it myself. And then share it with everyone here.”
“Spend time with your kids. Spend time with your parents. Spend time with your siblings. Prioritize all of this over your successes, over your accomplishments, over your work.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that faith, worship, and good character bring life to a community, and that we share responsibility for preserving that blessing. He encouraged us to keep asking why we serve and to keep our intentions focused on Allah. Raising the next generation begins with tending to our own hearts and practicing the worship we hope our children will learn. At home, kindness, time together, prayer, and Quran can strengthen our relationships and keep remembrance of Allah part of daily life. We are responsible for making sincere efforts while leaving the results to Allah, and each of us has something to contribute.
- When has someone at the masjid helped you feel welcome, and how could you welcome someone else?
- What would help us put our phones aside and enjoy more time together?
